Chief Shabbona of the Potawatomi Bear Clan (He Has Pawed Through)
Ottawa by birth. Married a Potawatomi woman. His village was located near modern-day Shabbona, Illinois.
Led a Potawatomi war party with Mad Sturgeon alongside the British and the Shawnee chief Tecumseh against General William Henry Harrison’s American forces during the War of 1812. Witnessed the death of Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames River (1813).
Rode to warn the U.S. Army in Illinois that Chief Black Hawk was on the warpath (1832).
