Mike Girty

Mike Girty of the Potawatomi.

 

Son of Simon Girty (the White Savage) and a Potawatomi mother.

 

Mike Girty strongly advocated war with the whites and eagerly joined with Black Hawk’s forces in 1832. He may have been taken prisoner at the Battle of Bad Axe.

 

Mike Girty is thought to have died only a few years later, alone, sick, and starving, on the open prairie of Illinois.
